Learning the Martial Arts without culture and history is pointless...

An introduction to the history of Martial Arts by Franz Shihan

The development of the martial arts has no official recorded history prior to the late 1800's. Since our dojo teaches primarily the Okinawa and Japanese martial arts the focus for us shall include the backgrounds on the development of both and their interrelation to modern times.

There are literally martial arts schools in almost every village, town and city in the United States today but unfortunately many of them have lost their heritage due to closed mind Sensei. The martial arts is about evolution however to dismiss the cultural and historical portions is to make them less worthy of being called a martial art. All of the students at our dojo will have a unique chance to learn the physical skills of great martial arts along with the philosophical, cultural and historical importance of their development. It is always important to honor the founding Masters of these martial arts that we study today. Simply learning the physical skills without understanding their heritage would make the Sensei, the dojo and the training insignificant at best.

It is important to always remember that what we are learning was developed by people who sacrificed a great deal of their lives. These Masters of old gave up better careers and financial gain to promote their beloved martial arts. Respect them at all times and never forget the sacrifices made so that you may study the martial arts with us today.
