Karate training has an essential element to it that is very mysterious and unique. This element has all the training one could ever need to master their martial art...it is called KATA.

Kata is the study of technique and application with the martial arts. Within each Kata one will find a plethora of techniques, body movement, applications and skill that surpasses most average person's understanding. The study of Kata is a life long process that must be given full respect and concentration by the student. In this section we will list each kata along with a text file that you can download to assist you with your studies. It is important to note that Kata cannot be learned without the guidance of a good Sensei who has trained heavily in it. We have also highlighted the important points in the study of Kata

Important Points to Remember for Kata Study

•  Kata is not just a pattern of formal techniques and stances.
•  Kata is not about memorization of the pattern but rather intense understanding of the Kata.
•  Kata requires many years of dedicated study to truly grasp just the surface of its inner world.
•  Hidden inside each Kata is Bunkai, or applications. Study of the Bunkai is just as important
as study of the Kata. One without the other is pointless.
•  There are a total of 10 Kata required in our system. You must know each Kata by name and
be able to define its meaning.
•  Kata is the essence of any true martial art and is much more important than Kumite ability.
•  Through the study of Kata one's own Kumite ability will increase and improve.
•  Proper technique is the emphasis on Kata, not speed, not just going through the moves.

The Aiki Te Ryu System Kata

Our system breaks down the Kata required into four segments. Each segment has its own focus when studying the Kata. They are as follows: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Black Belt Levels. The Kata listed below are shown in their proper segment. Next to teach one is a link to download a text file of the required Kata. Video training DVD's are offered through the Pro Shop for $29.95.
